Many people may believe that whether an industrial waste gas incinerator can achieve stable combustion at Level 7(burning waste oil alone)depends largely on the quality of the waste oil.

4 Common Mistakes Made When Operating an Incinerator

1.1 Thoroughly Evaporating Moisture from Waste Oil

Many people may believe that whether an industrial waste gas incinerator can achieve stable combustion at Level 7(burning waste oil alone)depends largely on the quality of the waste oil. However, our repeated experiments have proven that as long as the waste oil does not contain excessive moisture, stable Level 7 combustion is achievable, and the quality of the waste oil has little impact on this. Therefore, the thorough evaporation of moisture from the waste oil prior to combustion is particularly important.

While the waste oil is in the bilge OIL RESIDUE TANK,maintain moderate heating to achieve initial separation of oil and water.Transfer it to the waste oil tank of the combustion furnace, set the steam heating to maximum, and heat the waste oil to 95–100°C.This can evaporate 400–500 liters of water every 24 hours. If the steam flow is too low,the sludge heating temperature will not rise sufficiently, and evaporation will not achieve the desired effect. This will affect both the sludge water treatment rate and the stable combustion of subsequent sludge.

1.2 Resetting and Modifying Several Operating Parameters

①In the PROGRAM SELECT MANUAL CONTROL menu, ensure that SLUDGE ONLY is set to YES,indicating permission to burn sludge alone(Level 7).

②Enter the secondary password 1369 to access the factory parameter settings menu, and change“AUTO FACT.”under“FACTORY SETTING”to“OFF.”This ensures that any parameter changes will not automatically revert after 10 minutes. If this setting is“ON,”all parameter changes will automatically revert to factory settings after 10 minutes.

③The lower temperature limit for sludge oil processing is set by the SLTN parameter, which is factory-set to 80°C.This parameter requires frequent adjustment because, initially, the sludge oil is not being sprayed, and the temperature sensor detects only the ambient temperature. Therefore, you can initially set SLTN to 30°C to ensure the sludge oil begins burning immediately without delay. As the waste oil temperature displayed on the control panel rises, adjust this parameter periodically to ensure the combustion process continues without triggering alarms or extinguishing the flame, until the waste oil temperature stabilizes at 80°C.However,if the waste oil tank is not heated and the waste oil temperature has not reached 80°C,do not attempt to ignite the waste oil prematurely by adjusting this parameter.Premature injection into the furnace when the waste oil temperature is below 80°C will impair atomization and combustion, leading to incomplete combustion and the generation of pollutants.

Apart from the three points mentioned above, other parameters do not need to be adjusted.Of course, once you are proficient in operation, you may also make appropriate adjustments to other parameters based on actual conditions. The goal is to minimize the time required to reach Level 7 to conserve light oil as much as possible, ensuring the combustion process remains stable without triggering alarms or extinguishing the flame.A 400-liter diesel tank in a combustion furnace can typically handle over a dozen cycles of waste oil combustion without issues;with reduced light oil consumption, combustion costs are significantly lowered.

④Flame Failure Alarm

If a flame failure occurs at the start of combustion or during light oil combustion,it may be due to an excessively low oil level in the diesel tank, water content in the diesel fuel, valves in the diesel system failing to open properly, faulty combustion electrodes, abnormal light oil nozzles,a dirty photoresistor,or the flue damper failing to operate automatically and normally, among other causes.

If a flame failure occurs during the burning of residual oil, especially just after switching to Level 7,it is most likely due to excessive moisture content in the residual oil.Of course,it may also be caused by poor residual oil quality resulting in insufficient flame intensity. In such cases, you can appropriately increase the pressure at the residual oil metering pump inlet(1 bar for a round residual oil tank)and appropriately increase the metering pump speed to enhance the residual oil flame intensity. However,in our practical operations, whether waste oil combustion proceeds smoothly depends primarily on the amount of moisture in the waste oil, rather than the quality of the waste oil itself. With high-quality waste oil, combustion is rapid, and furnace temperature rises quickly. If the furnace temperature approaches the high-temperature alarm threshold, the waste oil inlet pressure and metering pump speed should be appropriately reduced. If the waste oil quality is poor and the furnace temperature continues to drop during combustion, the waste oil pressure and metering pump speed should be appropriately increased to maintain a stable furnace temperature above CCTSO.

⑤The furnace temperature for initial waste oil combustion is typically set at 650°C,and 850°C for dedicated waste oil combustion.Allowing the combustion furnace to gradually reach 850°C through automatic operation is a lengthy process that wastes light oil. If,during the initial ignition of the combustion furnace, small amounts of solid waste such as oil-soaked cotton yarn are periodically introduced, this will cause the furnace temperature to rise rapidly while simultaneously burning the solid waste. However, this is a serious violation of the combustion furnace operating procedures.Solid waste combustion must be performed in“SOLID WASTE”mode under automatic operation to ensure thorough and complete combustion of the solid waste.
