An Introduction to Incinerator Types

Advances in incinerator technology have led to more effective solutions for waste recycling. The following are the main types of incinerators:

1.Pulse-tossing grate incinerator

Waste is fed into the drying bed of the incinerator via an automatic feeding unit to be dried, then conveyed to the primary grate. On the grate, the waste undergoes high-temperature volatilization and pyrolysis. The grate is propelled by a pulsed airflow system, tossing the waste sequentially onto the next grate level. At this stage, polymeric materials undergo pyrolysis while other substances are incinerated.

2.Mechanical Grate Incinerator

Waste enters the downward-sloping grate(which is divided into drying, combustion, and burnout zones)through a feed hopper.Due to the interlaced movement of the grates, the waste is pushed downward, causing it to sequentially pass through each zone on the grate(as the waste moves from one zone to another,it undergoes a major turnover). This process continues until the waste is completely burned and discharged from the furnace.Combustion air enters from beneath the grate and mixes with the waste;high-temperature flue gas passes through the boiler’s heat transfer surfaces to generate steam, while simultaneously cooling the flue gas.The flue gas is then treated in a flue gas treatment system before being discharged.

3.Fluidized Bed Incinerator

The furnace body consists of a perforated distribution plate.A large amount of quartz sand is added to the furnace chamber and heated to over 600°C.Hot air at over 200°C is blown into the furnace bottom, causing the hot sand to fluidize, after which the waste is introduced. The waste fluidizes together with the hot sand, quickly drying, igniting, and burning.Unburned waste, being lighter in density, continues to boil and burn, while fully burned waste, being heavier, falls to the furnace bottom. After water cooling, coarse and fine ash are transported off-site via sorting equipment, while a small amount of medium-sized ash and quartz sand are returned to the furnace via lifting equipment for reuse.

4.Rotary Incinerator

A rotary incinerator features cooling water pipes or refractory materials arranged along the furnace body, which is positioned horizontally with a slight incline.Through continuous rotation of the furnace body, the waste inside is thoroughly combusted while simultaneously moving in the direction of the furnace’s incline until it is completely burned and discharged from the furnace.

5.CAO Incinerator

Waste is transported to a storage pit and then enters a biochemical treatment tank.Under the action of microorganisms,it undergoes dewatering, causing natural organic matter(such as food waste, leaves, and grass)to decompose into a powdery substance.Other solids, including synthetic organic materials like plastics and rubber,as well as inorganic components in the waste, cannot be decomposed into a powder.
